Back Down
B'eight turns attention back in the downward direction. The mistake to climb up here is immediately revealed. The entire distance backdown is obstacle free. That fact alone is not a problem, but at the bottom of that slope just barley visible from the distance is the pile of sharp edged metal pieces that had fallen earlier.
"I can do this, but I had better be extremely careful." B'eight thinks out loud in an attempt to bolster self-confidence where there is definitely a short supply.
The going is slow and tedious (and would certainly have been easier with some boots on) but eventually B'eight makes it 'safely' back to the pile of debris no worse for ware. Looking back in the direction of the room that was avoided, there is a faint glimmer of worry. "I really do hope it is just the sound of a machine"
As soon as B'eight thinks this the sound gets slightly louder, stops, and then there is an explosion that comes from that very room. The end of the hall erupts in flames. The shock wave stops short of where B'eight is positioned near the rubble pile, but there is a brief shower of tiny pieces of wood and metal that used to form the door and some of the internal components of the room (and probably the ones adjacent to it). "I am really glad I wasn't in there when that happened."
Taking a moment to think about the luck of this 'day' B'eight reexamines the situation.
- B'eight decides to continue toward the tube system
- B'eight considers the perils thus far and decides to head back toward the mess hall
